Welcome to Podfic Polygons!
Podfic Polygons is a multi-fandom challenge where groups build podfic step-by-step, with each podficcer adding on an element. We're so excited to bring it back for a second year! Your mods are shmaylor and reena_jenkins.
How it works:
There are three different types of Polygon groups: Triangles, Squares, and Pentagons.
In a Triangle polygon, there are three steps. All three members will:
In the end, you get three finished podfics where each member selected, recorded, and edited a different piece of each one!
Here's how it works with podficcers A, B, and C:

Square polygons work the same way, but with four members and the added step of cover art.
Pentagons have five members and the added step of music/sound effects.
To sum up:
Triangles → select fic, record, edit
Squares → select fic, record, edit, cover art
Pentagons → select fic, record, edit, cover art, music or sound effects
Every polygon member will perform each step on a different podfic, and the number of podfics produced is the same as the number of people in the group. You pass to the same person and receive from the same person after each step.
You can sign up individually to be matched into a polygon, or you can sign up as an established group.
There is no minimum length for each podfic. The maximum number of words is 5000, although each group can set a lower limit if group members wish to.
Timeline:
Signups open: March 3rd
Signups close: March 17th
Matches out by: March 20th
Fic selection deadline: March 31st
Recording deadline: April 14th
Editing deadline: April 28th
Cover art deadline: May 5th (squares and pentagons only)
Music/sound effects deadline: May 12th (pentagons only)
Triangles reveal week: May 6th
Squares reveal week: May 13th
Pentagons reveal week: May 20th
New This Year - Flexibility for Established Groups: If you sign-up as an established group, you are not required to stick to the 5000 word maximum, but you will need to agree as a group to a different maximum. If you sign-up as a square group, you can choose to make music/sound effects your final step instead of cover art.
Steps:
Fic Selection – Choose a fic for the next person in the polygon to record. The responsibilities are to pick a fic that falls within the length requirements discussed by the group, does not contain any squicks or triggers discussed by the group, and to get author permission to create a podfic.
Recording – Record the fic! Leave it all in, parts that you had to read twice because you tripped over your tongue, multiple takes to choose from, all of it.
Editing – Edit the audio! This is your creation too, so get creative, adjust the pacing, choose the takes you like best.
Cover Art – Take a listen to the podfic, get inspired, and create your cover. Your art should credit the author and all members of your polygon.
Music or Sound Effects – This can be anything you like. Intro and outro music, scene break music, atmospheric soundscapes, effects that go with specific moments that happen in the text, or whatever else you can think of.
Check-ins: There is a mandatory check-in at the end of each step. This is a group effort and we want to make sure everyone stays on track so your entire polygon can have a good time!
Extension Requests: Extensions of 3 days will be granted when needed. Each member can request 1 extension during the challenge. The next members of the polygon to receive the podfic after that extension will also be given 3 extra days so that they have their full allotted time. Failure to meet an extension deadline will count as an automatic dropout.
Pinch Hits: Life happens! It’s okay if you need to drop-out, but please let us know ASAP when you're having trouble so we can find a pinch hit for your polygon.
Posting: All podfics will be posted to AO3, with every group member listed as a co-author. Specific instructions for how to post to the challenge collection will be sent out closer to reveals.
